TITLE: English Language Learners Academy Teacher
REPORTS TO: Kelley Gangi - Chief of Instructional Improvement
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Training: 5 training sessions held after school (dates TBD)
- Academy will be held from 9:30AM to 2:30PM on the following dates: November 3rd, November 10th, November 17th, December 1st, December 8th, December 15th, January 5th and January 12th.
COMPENSATION: $3,500 stipend
OVERVIEW: The ELL Academy will engage 75-100+ English Language Learners, ranging from Levels 1-4 in language proficiency, from across the SEZP in an eight-part blended learning model based on the success of the Middlebury Interactive Languages and Hartford Public Schools partnership for supplemental EL support.
DUTIES:
- Execute blended learning academy instruction, including Middlebury Interactive Languages (MIL) program administration along with small-group instruction and 1:1 support cycles at the school site;
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with school administration, teachers, students and parents;
- Recruit 15 - 20 students to participate in the academy
- Design and implement a recruitment strategy with the support of your principal and the SEZP planning team
- Leverage the attendance incentive program with the support of your principal and the SEZP planning team
- Monitor student attendance and student progress during academy;
- Prepare and submit weekly program documentation such as attendance sheets, incident reports, behavior documentation, etc.;
- Manage data collection activities including program evaluation, student data, and share with teachers, other staff members, and parents;
- Oversee the use of all materials and ensure materials are used appropriately;
- Prepare student reports and other requested reports throughout duration of program;
- Oversee all communication with parents and school administration;
- Appropriately handle behavior and disciplinary problems;
- Manage classroom clean-up and removal of all supplies at the end of the program;
- Ensure safety of students at all times;
- Assist students in transportation needs;
- Attend training session(s) and related meetings;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Instructional Support.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MA DESE teacher licensed and SEI endorsed teachers are preferred;
- Strong aptitude for technology and ability to learn new software quickly;
- Experience working with English language learners;
- Ability to collaborate with administrators, teachers and parents;
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; flexible and reliable;
- Bilingual highly desirable.
