RE-APPLICATIONS:    

Part I – Initial Document Submission

 

This posting is for the RE-APPLICATION process for all candidates that are in their second year since their last appointment and wish to continue as an ILS during the 2020-2021 school year.

 

The purpose of the application process is to identify and select highly qualified and effective Instructional Leadership Specialists who can help the district by continuing to ensure a culture of equity and proficiency.

 

 

REPORTS TO:         Principal

FUNDING:              Title I & Title II 

WORK SCHEDULE: See SEA Contract

 

DUTIES:

  1. The Instructional Leadership Specialist collaborates with school leaders to facilitate and execute the Springfield Strategic Framework with fidelity and integrity. 
  2. The Instructional Leadership Specialist has a primary role to coach adults through: 

Planning, implementing and supporting rigorous standards-based CORE instruction in every classroom, every day for every student (including ELL and special education).

 

The ILS:

  • Spends 20% of the work schedule instructing students.
  • Spends 50% of the workday in classrooms actively engaged in modeling, coaching, co-teaching and demonstrating standards-based best practices.
  • Spends 30% of the schedule spent on data review, leading team meetings, presenting professional development, etc.
  • Designs classroom as demonstration site for teachers.
  • Supports and facilitates the planning and implementing of rigorous standards-based lessons in response to student data.
  • Demonstrates an ability to access, analyze, and act on school, classroom, and individual student data in support of quality tiered standards-based instruction.
  • Facilitate content/grade level data meetings.

Initiating the design and execution of a school-based targeted PD plan aligned with the Springfield Strategic Plan.

 

The ILS will:

  • Attend and actively participate in all applicable Professional Development and school based Instructional Leadership Team meetings.
  • Actively engages the school community to build a shared understanding of the Springfield Strategic Plan is and what it looks like in every classroom and meeting every day in the school.
  • Uses the concept of the data cycle to assist in backwards planning of targeted PD.

Create goal focused, adaptive, and cohesive school culture.

 

The ILS will:

  • Develop partnerships with building administration, parents and community to support the improvement efforts of the school.
  • Understand and utilizes OHI data to facilitate, monitor and adjust PD based on teachers’ needs.
  • Coach and manage teams to create, monitor and achieve SMART goals.
  • Model high expectations for adults and children through words and actions.
  • Model skills in giving and receiving feedback that enhances the school culture and promotes learning for all.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Meets the Highly-Qualified requirements of the Springfield Public Schools.
  2. Has completed a minimum of five (5) years of experience working directly with students with the majority of teaching experience in the content area to which they are applying.
  3. Has a 97% attendance rate in a historical context from 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. (If re-applicant only has 95% attendance rate, he/she must agree to increase it to 97% within the first year.)
  4. Has attained Professional Teacher Status in the Springfield Public Schools.
  5. Is highly recommended by his/her current principal.
  6. Possesses a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  7. Possesses a professional license in the area of teaching position from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (a specific content license is preferred in the areas of: ELA/reading, math and science).
  8. Has consistent proficient/exemplary overall performance rating on your evaluations over the past two years and Principle VIII with an exceeds rating.
  9. Has provided evidence that demonstrate your expertise in impacting teachers practice, understanding and use of student data, leadership and the implementation of the Springfield Strategic Plan through the review of the Instructional Planning Application (IPA)*
  10. Demonstrates outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills.

 

CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS

 

Part II – Document Review

Central Office will review for all ILS who are Re-applying the following:

  • Principal Recommendation
  • Principle VIII with an overall exceeds expectations signed by principal from 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years
  • Exemplary Summative or Formative Evaluation from 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years

 

*The ILS IPA Sheets will be used to determine if candidates have successfully led the learning and can show student impact.

 

Do not send anything in via interoffice mail.   All documents will be reviewed internally.

 

Part III- Pool of Highly Qualified ILS and Principal Interviews

 

  • Candidates that successfully complete the document submission, have an exemplary overall rating on summative or formative from 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years, and have an exceeds rating on the Principle VIII from 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years will be designated as a Highly Qualified Instructional Leadership Specialist. Principals will interview Highly Qualified Instructional Leadership Specialists candidates, and in collaboration with the Chief Schools Officer, select Instructional Leadership Specialists for placement.

 

Qualifications and documents will be verified by the Human Resources and Office of Instruction Departments.
