Position Duration: Maximum of 150 hours
Restricted to Springfield Public Schools High School Students
The Springfield Public Schools Office of Information Technology and Accountability is responsible for managing and delivering information and technology resources for the district. Over the course of this 10-week internship, students will be exposed to industry standard patterns and practices within the information technology field and will use commercial technologies from Microsoft and Cisco. Students will gain exposure to IT service management and customer support; device lifecycle management including configuration and repair; and fundamental network and computer security practices.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Position open to current Springfield Public School students in their senior year or students in the second semester of their junior year.
- Strong interest in exploring the Information Technology career field.
- Endorsement of SPS career readiness coordinator or cooperative education coordinator.
- Availability between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm with flexibility based on student's school schedule.
- Transportation to and from 233 Allen Street required.
- Required to regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Strong motivation and taking initiative with assigned work.
- Required attendance and punctuality in accordance with the work schedule.
- Positive attitude and ability to receive direction and constructive criticism.
- Strong communication skills including speaking, listening, and interacting with co-workers.
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace culture, policy, and ethics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the administration of the district inventory and asset management system.
- Collaborate on technical projects.
- Troubleshoot and escalate technology issues as needed.
- Adhere to district technology standards and procedures.
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain technology related equipment and software.
- Instruct staff on technology related software and equipment.
- Provide support for technology issues within the district.
- Participate in supervised onsite and remote for technology problem resolution.
- Assist in the intake, repair, and return of devices to buildings in a centralized repair model.
- Assist in the assignment and distribution of technology related equipment.
- Assist in the disposal of technology equipment.
- Relocate technology equipment within facilities as needed.
- Support the implementation of new computer projects and new hardware installations.
- Utilize the district ticketing system to document and account for time and resolution of work.
- Work collaboratively with all technology staff members and vendors.
- Work with management and other senior staff to highlight technology issues within district buildings and make recommendations.
- Must complete work-based learning (WBLP) plan.
- Must meet regularly with work-site mentor, career readiness coordinator or cooperative education coordinator.
